Weekend Recap: La Sirène De La Mer

Happy Monday! I am officially self-employed as of today. Perhaps the first day of the rest of my life? Only time will tell!

This weekend we had an amazing Lebanese meal with friends at La Sirène De La Mer. It was my first time at this Town Mount-Royal resto which serves fine Lebanese cuisine in an upscale setting. It’s nothing like the food you can get at Lebanese fast food joints like Amir here in Montreal. I would say I was among the 5% of patrons who weren’t Lebanese. Basically it’s: Welcome to Lebanon! And we ate in a truly Lebanese way, enjoying several mezze dishes placed in the centre of the table. The best tabbouleh and fattoush salads you ever tasted – the latter being my FAVE. Flavourful kibbeh, filo pastry cigars stuffed with salty cheese, and stuffed grape leaves – not just a Greek thing. Hummus, baba ghabouj and garlic sauce (apparently called toum) for dipping.  Lebanese pita and nuts and marinated veggies. The Lebanese version of steak tartar.  Spicy sausage dishes.  Skewered chicken and beef served with roasted whole onions and tomatoes and French fries…. And I’m skipping some dishes here! To crown it some arak, the Lebanese version of ouzo (see the white drink being poured in the first photo). I didn’t eat of everything because I was near to bursting. It was a decadent night with amazing company.

La Porte

Friday’s lunch was too good.  At the end of an incredibly busy work week I finally allowed myself to leave the office at lunch. My mother and I decided to try La Porte, not too far from where I work. Well I came out thoroughly impressed. It was a serene, sun-filled and YUMMY lunch!

For once I took decent food photos so I thought I would share.

I had the Tarte au polenta avec légumes du moment (Polenta tart with seasonal vetetables):

My mother had Un poisson selon le retour du marché (Fish of the day):

Weekend Recap: Local Fashion, Beagles, Family & Food

Hope you all had a great weekend. I got a new camera on Friday afternoon – just a cheap camera I can take snapshots with. I’m hoping it encourages me to take more photos – sometimes I’m afraid I’m not documenting my time very well, and in two years I won’t even remember what I was doing with my time!

This weekend was really productive. We got a lot of things done. We also stopped into Montreal fashion week, the FMDM, which had a bit of a pop-up shop downtown featuring local designers such as Charlotte Hosten and Uranium. On Saturday we went for dinner at Richy’s parents’. Georges and Rena prepared a wonderful barbecue meal and Jean-Luc the beagle provided lots of entertainment. And on Sunday night, we took my parents out to dinner at La salle à manger, which is sinfully delicious and the perfect way to end off the weekend.

So I’m pretty happy with my weekend. How about you?

La Boîte Gourmande: Cozy Montreal Lunch & Brunch Spot

One of my favourite lunch and brunch spots in Montreal is La Boîte Gourmande. Housed in a renovated bank – an original vault door remains – this resto is a stunning space with tons of natural light. And just as importantly, the food is absolutely scrumptious. Lucky for me, it’s about a 30-second walk from my place.
