Weekend Recap: Book Launch & Birthday Surprise

This weekend was nonstop fun with my best friends!

On Friday it was Teri‘s Montreal book launch (her Toronto book launch is tonight, November 8!). She read beautifully from her amazing collection of short stories (you should pick it up!). We had wine in plastic cups. Later we went for Brazilian food. Despite the fact that I dropped my ring in the toilet, it was a success of an evening!

The book launch was held at the Drawn & Quarterly bookstore… a.k.a. my new favourite place. It was my first visit to this wonderful shop but I plan on going back soon and spending HOURS exploring every corner.

On Saturday, we TOTALLY surprised miss Lesley for her 30th birthday. She walked into Les Cavistes thinking she was going for a quiet drink and SURPRISE! Twenty of your closest friends! Happy birthday Bub!

Weekend Recap: Tall Ships and Baby’s First Birthday

Summer decided to go out with a bang: it was such a beautiful late September weekend here in Montreal. On Saturday,  I spent some time with my a good friend Anne Marie going out for brunch, seeing the Jenny Holzer exhibit at DHC/ART and wandering down to the packed Old Port for some tall ships sightings. And on Sunday was Alexis’ first birthday party, the son of my friends Nadine and Julien. I can’t get over how much this sweet little boy grew up in the past year!

Friday’s lunch was too good.  At the end of an incredibly busy work week I finally allowed myself to leave the office at lunch. My mother and I decided to try La Porte, not too far from where I work. Well I came out thoroughly impressed. It was a serene, sun-filled and YUMMY lunch!

For once I took decent food photos so I thought I would share.

I had the Tarte au polenta avec légumes du moment (Polenta tart with seasonal vetetables):

My mother had Un poisson selon le retour du marché (Fish of the day):

Weekend Recap: Local Fashion, Beagles, Family & Food

Hope you all had a great weekend. I got a new camera on Friday afternoon – just a cheap camera I can take snapshots with. I’m hoping it encourages me to take more photos – sometimes I’m afraid I’m not documenting my time very well, and in two years I won’t even remember what I was doing with my time!

This weekend was really productive. We got a lot of things done. We also stopped into Montreal fashion week, the FMDM, which had a bit of a pop-up shop downtown featuring local designers such as Charlotte Hosten and Uranium. On Saturday we went for dinner at Richy’s parents’. Georges and Rena prepared a wonderful barbecue meal and Jean-Luc the beagle provided lots of entertainment. And on Sunday night, we took my parents out to dinner at La salle à manger, which is sinfully delicious and the perfect way to end off the weekend.

So I’m pretty happy with my weekend. How about you?

Ethereal Noemiah

When I got every single piece of jewellery I owned stolen, I was devastated. But secretly, I was sort of happy I had full permission to spend myself silly on some new pieces. Enter Noemiah, whose earrings got me the most compliments of everything I was newly wearing. Created by Montrealer Noémie Vaillancourt, Noemiah jewellery is delicate and almost ethereal. I was especially taken aback and enamoured by her newest pieces, which are the large feather statement necklaces pictured below. Swoon! Check out Noemiah, you won’t regret it.
