From Book to Look: Bad Behavior

Mary Gaitskill is a discovery for me. Truth be told I’m only three-quarters of the way through this book of short stories, but it’s enough to say that I want to read all her other books.  Bad Behavior features dark, twisted, sordid affairs. People lost in their thoughts and struggling with their memories and perversions. Her writing is very tight and free of any embellishments. Raw and to the point. Love love love this book!

And I love the outfit.  I love long, baggy sweaters over skinny jeans. Simple handbags and shoes. It’s classic and simple. Would you wear this outfit?

From Book to Look: The Little Prince

Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince) by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry plunges the reader into an intergalactic fairytale featuring a little prince from another planet who questions life and human nature. “On ne voit bien qu’avec le cœur. L’essentiel est invisible pour les yeux,” says the little prince (“One sees clearly only with the heart. What is essential is invisible to the eye”). It is hands down the most beautiful book I’ve ever read.  I read it as a kid, then as an adult – and certainly will read it with my own kids.

From Book to Look: Prep

Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld is one of the most engaging books I’ve read in recent years. It follows main character Lee Fiora, a teenager who wins a scholarship to a prestigious boarding school, leaving her comfortable Indiana existence for a world in which she is the outsider, in more ways than one. It is a coming-of-age novel among the best I’ve read. Lee is one of those characters that you love from page one and are truly sad to let go on the last page.
