Kate Spade Does It… Again

Kate Spade has gotta be one of my all-time favourite designers. Her liberal use of colour and her playful approach to femininity and vintage style have won be over – through and through. The Jewelbox Sonya Coat is no exception. From the richness of that beautiful purple to the large bow and ruffles in front that add a twist to your classic trench style, this tweed number is perfect for fall and guaranteed to make head turns. In any event, it definitely made MY jaw drop!

Weekend Recap: Local Fashion, Beagles, Family & Food

Hope you all had a great weekend. I got a new camera on Friday afternoon – just a cheap camera I can take snapshots with. I’m hoping it encourages me to take more photos – sometimes I’m afraid I’m not documenting my time very well, and in two years I won’t even remember what I was doing with my time!

This weekend was really productive. We got a lot of things done. We also stopped into Montreal fashion week, the FMDM, which had a bit of a pop-up shop downtown featuring local designers such as Charlotte Hosten and Uranium. On Saturday we went for dinner at Richy’s parents’. Georges and Rena prepared a wonderful barbecue meal and Jean-Luc the beagle provided lots of entertainment. And on Sunday night, we took my parents out to dinner at La salle à manger, which is sinfully delicious and the perfect way to end off the weekend.

So I’m pretty happy with my weekend. How about you?

Chris Benz’s Resort 2011 Collection

Chris Benz’s 2011 resort collection is a thing of beauty. Every detail is stunning, from the ’50s cuts to the maxi dresses to a more muted take on his signature punch of colour. (For his typical approach to colour, see my post about his spring summer collection)

Here are some of my faves.

A maxi dress goes from muted beige to eye-catching canary yellow.

A bright cardigan adds a twist to a neutrally-toned dress:

High-waisted shorts with ’50s style short-sleeved sweater:

Paired with a patterned blouse, this layered, ruffly skirt adds just the right amount of brightness:

And finally, a ’50s style dress with unexpected flowery details for a bit of “lady who lunches” flair:

Raving About: Billie Boutique Online

I love how Billie Boutique – located just a stone’s throw from my home – is featuring local Montreal fashion bloggers on their website and blog. Each blogger put together an outfit from Billie’s selection and posed for a photo shoot – the results of which are stunning! Every week, a new blogger is featured. This week has Camille Dg from Les Bachelières front and centre and last week it was Cindy Laverdière from Mod Trotter Blog. On One-Piece Swimwear

I love a one-piece swimsuit that isn’t totally prudish. I used to be competitive swimmer and Speedo was my domain; but now I don’t need such practical swimwear. Enter Zimmermann and their sexy cuts! Sometimes it’s a nice variety from two pieces, no? (I also really like We are Handsome, which I wrote about a while back.)

Haiiku is a clothing line founded in Montreal in 2005 and now based in Vancouver. The label has presented a subtle-yet-intriguing collection in a neutral palette and natural materials. Some pretty backs show a little bit of skin, balancing out the collection’s almost virginal purity. Inspiring and beautiful, no?

Nostalgia and Road Trips

American Gold is a clothing line drawing heavily on nostalgia and the spirit of road tripping: Indian summers, taxidermy, roadside flea markets, playing hooky and living free, among other things. Makes me want to hit the road!
