Mireille’s Chair: A Reupholstering Miracle

Oct 05
2010

My friend Mireille certainly has an eye for a beautiful piece of furniture. When she spotted an old chair in a dumpster in Ottawa she decided it still had potential, so she took it home.  She asked a friend, Chris Lewis, to reupholster the chair for her. Chris removed the wicker from the sides, changed the fabric to a more classic colour and added some extra cushioning.  The result is nothing short of stunning – check it out!

Lounge Back

May 21
2010

These rooms are so marvellously put together. My next home will have a corner for a fabulous lounge chair.  So decadently stylish.

And speaking of decadence, I have spent the afternoon napping and walking in the sun. I love that my new(ish) employer “bridges” holiday long weekends (turns three-day weekends into four-day weekends). I’m so appreciative of being able to slow down and relax. Life lately has been way too much about getting things done and not enough about stopping and smelling the flowers.

Feasting My Eyes On…

May 07
2010

At the moment, I am adoring vintage-cut swimsuits,

the return of carpeting (though I remain a die-hard lover of wood),

shoulder-baring tops,

rompers and hats,

bold necklaces,

découpage chairs,

and cute dresses, even if they’re Miu Miu knockoffs.

At the moment, I am loving white floor boards,

cute notebooks,

this chinoiserie duvet cover,

high-waisted chic,

rainbow assortments,

literary mugs,

country-style meets eclecticism,

ruffles on pillows,

and Chloe Sevigny fashion shoots.

Blog It Foward: What Inspires Me

Mar 15
2010

I am one of 300 bloggers taking part in the Blog It Foward project started by Victoria of Sfgirlbybay.  The idea was to create a chain of blog posts wherein bloggers talk about what inspires them the most. In my group, Red Bird Style preceded me on Friday, and tomorrow, Redesign Technologies follows!

Starting this blog two months ago has enabled me to articulate for the first time exactly what I love in design, home decor and in fashion. I’ve always known what I like on instinct, but couldn’t have put that taste into words. One recurring theme on Red Glasses is colour, so in the interest of narrowing down the scope of this thing, that’s what I’ll focus on.

Photo above: A kitchen featured on Design Sponge. I love the combination of colour with the industrial aesthetic of the slate gray walls and stainless steel counters.

The Nixon Time Teller watch. I own the pink one.

These chairs created by Fetiche would add a splash of colour to any room!

Suno NY is a clothing line known for its bold use of colour.

To me, using bold colours in design symbolizes passion, emotions and pushing things to the limit. It also means taking risks, standing out from the crowd and asserting your own style. It’s about remaining a kid at heart.

This living room photographed by Polly Wreford somehow manages to be both grown-up and youthful at once.

Elsie from A Beautiful Mess knows how to rock brightly coloured frames and shades, like these Ray Ban Wayfarers.

Corno‘s colourful work radiates passion.

I am convinced you cannot have a bad day while wearing this dress.

You can’t talk about colour without talking about La Reine du Tricot, Sonia Rykiel. Pictured is her collection for H&M.

Brights contrasted against dark tones – steals my heart every time!

How about a pink brick wall? Totally gutsy, if you ask me.

The little black dress gets a makeover. This Mara Hoffman number has just enough colour to be original but not too much to be crazy.

Amy Atlas makes amazing colour-themed dessert tables.

Gotta have guts to go for full out purple like this!

This fantastic editorial from Lula Magazine exemplifies the kid side of colour-loving.

Same home as the first picture. WOW.
