To Covet

It’s a wee bit materialistic but the “coveteur” in me loves to ogle the different wardrobes featured on The Coveteur. Also love the idea of using jewellery, shoes and clothes as home decor items. I wonder what the Boo would think if I displayed my Louboutin heels next to the TV?

Online shopping and designer fashion are evil tempters for me. Like with these latest Alex Wang beauts.  It would be so easy, with the click of a button, to blow all of my savings.  But it makes me wonder: would it be that bad to be broke, if I were fabulous as well?

I’d promise my first-born in exchange for this beauty. Oh Mr Wang how you impress me.

Unfortunately dears, life got overly busy this week… So my usual Book to Look post will not be appearing. I promise to be back next week – I’m reading an amazing book right now that I’m dying to tell you about.

Stay warm in all the snow out there!

From Book to Look: A Visit from the Goon Squad

A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan is the first book I finished on my iPad.  So I didn’t get to physically feel a book in my hands, glance at its lovely cover every day. But I found it super comfortable and convenient to read a book on the iPad. I highly recommend it (or the Kindle, or any other e-reader really).

This is the best book I’ve read in many months. It’s about rock n’ roll. The circuity of relationships. Technology. Ageing. And it’s funny: really funny and quirky. One of the chapters is a Powerpoint presentation. What’s not to love?

And so here’s the book cover in outfit form. It’s a “going to a show” outfit. Something one of the characters would wear. To be honest, I probably wouldn’t wear leather shorts myself. Not that I don’t think they’re nice, it’s that they take guts to wear. But this outfit would make them easier to pull off, no?

From Book to Look: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

2010

Upon the suggestion of my maman this week’s book is The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Swedish author Stieg Larsson.  This is the first of a trilogy of thrillers that my mother and I read one after the other – she’d pass over each one when she was done! This is the sort of book that you cannot, for the life of you, put down. It would be a stretch to call it fine literature. But I’d probably have to admit that I can’t remember another book I read with as much gusto in the past year or so.

Set in Sweden, the stories feature cyber-punk Lisbeth Salander who helps a journalist solves various crimes by hacking into computers to gain information.  And here comes a little problem as the book cover doesn’t really mesh with the main character’s overall attitude and style. So let’s just call this a cross between What would Lisbeth Salander wear? and a book cover outfit.  Lisbeth would wear a ratty sweater (with a yellow tank poking through underneath), combat boots, leather and spiky jewellery. She would don sunglasses for disguise and carry around a skull-adorned laptop case – Alexander McQueen to the rescue!

Have you read the book? Do you see Lisbeth wearing this outfit?
