Quarto & Sala

I love looking at other people’s homes, especially when it’s an exploration of a personality and not just a pleasing decor. The homes of collectors of kitsch who live in worlds in which colours, materials and periods cohabitate.

That’s why I could spend a long time browsing Quarto & Sala, a Brazilian website on which I don’t understand a word. Think The Selby, Brazil style.

Fruity Family

Aug 23
2010

In Richy’s family, fruit is king. For dessert, the table is always decked out with several kinds of the most amazing fruit. The freshest, best fruit that you cannot get at your local chain supermarket. Mangos like I’d never tasted them. Things I’d never tried, like cactus fruit.  Fresh figs & lychees. Piles and piles of fruit. Completely decadent.

Sunday night’s spread:

This weekend at the Saads, I tasted FRESH dates for the first time. I didn’t even know what they were when they were put down in front of me (see photo below). Fresh dates had never even occurred to me!

Well, I cannot go on enough about how amazing they are. Crunchy and super sweet on the outside. Flesh that is milder and almost nutty. I would eat these by the dozen!

Have you ever tried fresh dates?

Dans La Rue

So many bloggers are buzzing with excitement about Rue Magazine, which will launch next month. I was already a fan of the founders’ blogs for their impeccable tastes (Plush Palate, Sacramento Street & The City Sage) and seeing ShelterPop’s sneak peak certainly whet my appetite for the complete first issue!

Let me count the ways I love this bedroom: 1) the chandelier-in-the-bedroom trend, done differently, 2) the pristine whites mixed up with antique and more ornate touches such as the frames and mirrors 3) the U.S. Mail pillows – are those vintage mail bags??, 4) the framed butterfly collections on the floor next to each nightstand, 5) the sunburst mirror above the bed is SO pretty and 6) I just want to jump in that bed! And sleep in it.

Feasting My Eyes On…

2010

At the moment, I am loving flower garlands,

plates as decoration,

pretty lipstick cases,

this hyper-feminine bedroom,

this floor lamp,

floating staircases,

and scratch maps to track where you’ve been.

Modern and Homey Dinnerware

Aug 17
2010

Designed by a young Danish designer named Gry Fager and manufactured by Normann-Copenhagen, the Mormor line of dinnerware was inspired by the simplest thing: a kitchen tea towel.  “Mormor” means “grandmother” in Swedish and the line is meant to evoke something of past generations. Says Fager: “I have been inspired by the atmosphere and the character of the kitchen, particularly older kitchens from my grandmother’s time and I have transferred the kitchen clichés into a modern context.”  I love these beautiful dishes for their mix of modernity and homeyness – beautiful work.
