New Year Weekend in Quebec City

Jan 03
2011

The Boo and I like to travel in the period between Christmas and the beginning of January when we go back to work. One year we were in Tel Aviv and another year we were in Puerto Vallarta. But this year, we debated for weeks and just couldn’t make up our minds about where to go. So we decided to simply drive up to Quebec City for a change of scenery and to celebrate the New Year.

The Boo’s siblings joined us as well as some friends who came from Montreal. We ate well, drank champagne and danced our hearts out. Luckily our chosen party venues were a one minute walk from our hotel, so it was easy to stumble to bed when we could party no more.

January 1 was a quiet day in Quebec City with everything being closed. We walked around town for hours and took some photos.

Happy New Year! And Goodbye to 2010

Dec 31
2010

I’m always excited to ring in a new year. To me a new year holds so much promise… I can’t help but feel anticipation and excitement!

But before moving on to 2011, here’s a little recap of 2010!

JAN: I begin the new year in Mexico with the Boo. I’m sick for the first week of January. Not working. Job interviews. Lots of  skiing. Started this blog. Go dog sledding and ice fishing and it’s inhumanly cold.

FEB: Lots of job interviews, they’re becoming old hat. I watch a lot of the Olympics and feel very Canadian. I spend a lot of time at La Boite Gourmande. I go to a beautiful spa with my mother.

MAR: I start at BBDO as an account supervisor. I turn 30. I throw myself a party. I lose a contact lens into my eye and my ophthalmologist friend flips my eyelid out, at the party. The Boo goes to Lebanon to claim some land. No really.

APR: I see Grupo Corpo, my favourite dance company. I travel to Toronto for work and reminisce about when I lived there. Our home gets burglarized. Everything is gone. And insurance companies suck.

MAY: I give blood and feel like a superhero even though my blood type is kind of useless. I get to see some playoffs hockey. Host part of Lisa’s bachelorette party and make numerous cupcakes.  We go to a pole dancing lesson, during which I feel about as sexy as Peewee Herman. Baby shower for preggo friend Emilie. Cirque du Soleil show. Get an alarm system and it’s an immense relief.

JUN: After having my old one stolen in April, I finally get another laptop. Make the switch to Mac! I spend a long weekend in Chicago with my mother. We eat a key lime pie bigger than a person’s head.

JUL: Heat wave! My brother moves back to New Brunswick for work (he’s an airplane pilot). Go to France for Lisa and Alain’s wedding. Drink lots of Champagne. Also go to Belgium, so I can check off another place on the List of Places I’ve Been To. ‘Cause I’m like that.

AUG: I finally buy a new camera, a cheap one in replacement of the one that got stolen in April. I am so happy to take tons of snapshots! I freak people out by taking pictures of their food. Somehow I manage to drag the Boo to Eat Pray Love. I miss my best friends A LOT, who are in Europe for five months.

SEP: I take a blogging e-course. The Boo dislocates his collarbone (don’t bike and text kids!). Launch a new website at work during an all-nighter. Oh, and I watch a little too much of the Rachel Zoe Project. The Boo and I celebrate our five years together.

OCT: I resign from my job. I give four weeks notice. Because I have never left a job in a normal person way. I dress up for Halloween for the first time in years. See a Louis CK show.

NOV: Last day at BBDO. I start working with my father in private equity, investing in start-up companies. On one super-weekend there’s Teri‘s book launch on Friday night, and Lesley‘s surprise party for her 30th birthday on Saturday. Oh, and obviously, my best friends now live in Montreal again. Can I get a woohoo?

DEC: Resolve to purchase all of my Christmas gifts on Etsy. The only exception is the Boo’s. I go New Brunswick to visit family before the holidays. We get stuck in a snowstorm on the way back. I go office hunting and find my dream office in Old Montreal. The Boo and I ring in the New Year tonight in Quebec City!

Christmas Weekend Recap!

Dec 27
2010

Christmas never seems to get old. At 30 years old I love this holiday just as much as when I was a kid. Here are a few photos of my highlights from this year – at least until my camera battery died (boo!).

What were your highlights?

I made some ridiculously cute Christmas-themed vanilla mini cupcakes:

I ate turkey stuffed with almonds and chestnuts, rice and ground beef. Too good.

I admired this modern take on a Christmas tree:

I was very impressed by a beagle who unwrapped his own gift:

I remained cozy by the tree and fire:

I gave the Boo a 3D Christmas card:

Happy Holidays!

A Christmas Parlour Game

Dec 21
2010

Here’s something fun to do while you’re sitting around the fire this Christmas. At the request of the folks at Daily Candy, Mélangerie has created this adorable parlour game that’s a cross between fortune teller, telephone and Pictionary. You can download the rules and game pieces to cut out right here (PDF). Have fun!
