Handlebar-Inspired Candlestick

2010

Created by Taiwanese designer Yen-Wen Tseng, this original candlestick design was conceived to emulate a bicycle handlebar. It’s even made of rubber (which makes wax dripping clean-up a bit easier). The horizontal orientation of the disk-like shapes give it a totally different look than candlesticks normally have. I like it!

The rings it’s made of are really interesting, and I definitely see how the handlebar fits in. It reminds me of something else as well…this machine that builds objects with tiny threads of plastic, a modeling machine of sorts. I wish I could remember what it’s called.
